To get the right word in the right place is a rare achievement. To condense the diffused light of a page of thought into the luminous flash of a single sentence, is worthy to rank as a prize composition just by itself... Anybody can have ideas, the difficulty is to express them without squandering a quire of paper on an idea that ought to be reduced to one glittering paragraph. -- Mark Twain

Smile
Two things made me smile today: my local Sam's Club has installed self-checkout lanes, and this:
Hi Carol! That puppy and the lemon is the cutest thing--made me smile, too, thank you very much! And, I don't mean to burst your bubble, but they tried self-checkouts at our Costco and have since removed them--too many operator errors!!
Please let me enjoy the sensation of sailing through checkout without having to talk to the elfin woman who shares my husband's last name. If we have to discuss her family tree one more time I will tear it up by the roots and beat her over the head with it.
